WAEC Withholds 167,486 WASSCE Results Over Examination Malpractice The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of 167,486 candidates who sat for the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE for School Candidates. This figure represents 8.59% of the total number of candidates, flagged for alleged involvement in examination malpractice. According to the Council, the mass withholding was necessitated by the widespread use of mobile phones in examination halls—despite a strict ban—and cases of organized cheating reported in several schools. WAEC further disclosed that several supervisors and invigilators caught aiding and abetting malpractice have been arrested. They are expected to face disciplinary action through their respective State Ministries of Education. 2026 WASSCE Performance Summary 1,200,514 candidates (61.54%) obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. 1,687,378 candidates (86.50%) obtained at least five credits, with or without English Language and Mathematics. WAEC noted a slight dip in academic performance, observing that the percentage of candidates who secured five credits including English and Mathematics declined by 1.42% compared to the 2025 results. Candidates whose results are currently withheld are advised to remain patient and await the conclusion of the Council’s investigations before a final decision is reached on their status. STUDENTSPLUG
